A piglet known as Chris P. Bacon examines his new wheelchair on the office floor of veterinarian and owner Len Lucero in Clermont, Fla. The little animal’s hind legs are deformed and Lucero had fashioned a wheelchair out of K’nex toys to help it walk. Chris outgrew the wheelchair, and will soon grow into his new, sturdier model. Taxidermied piglet turned piggy bank. And no, we’re not kidding. They cost $4,000 and there’s a long wait. The company selling these things says the piglets die of natural causes. Needless to say, the Winnipeg Humane Society isn’t very pleased with the whole thing.
I’d post a photo, but I’ll just let you go here and see it if you choose.
Frankenbacon! There’s another engineered creature that’s stirring debate: The Enviropig — or, to critics, “Frankenswine.” The animal’s Canadian creators say it is less harmful to the environment than natural pigs, and would help farmers cut costs. Really?
